Classifying minerals and their related names in a relational database

Abstract The categorisation of minerals and their related names, such as synonyms, obsolete or historical varieties mixtures, is an asset for designing interoperable consistent mineralogical data warehouse. An enormous amount this data, provided by mindat.org other resources, was reviewed analysed during the research. analysis indicates existence several categories (1) abstract titles designations representing link to original material a group names substances without actual physical representation, (2) unique material, compounds, aggregate one more minerals. A revision dependency between attributes stored in database (e.g. chemical properties, properties) classification status assigned allowed us design robust prototype maintaining integrity consistency. proposed scheme allows standardisation structuring officially regulated maintained species, e.g. IMA-approved, and, addition, unregulated ones.
